MARLEY ALVAREZ
Marley Alvarez is an intuitive abstract painter whose work explores the interplay between color, texture, and storytelling. Based in the Northern Rivers, she draws deeply from her surroundings, creating pieces that reflect the juxtaposition of urban and coastal influences. Raised in Sydney, Marley's early works captured the essence of suburban life, incorporating architectural elements and street names that evoke memories of her upbringing. Now, living amidst the serene landscapes of the Northern Rivers, she combines the natural beauty of the region into her art, infusing her works with a sense of fluidity and movement inspired by the ocean and her love for surfing.
Her practice is defined by the layers she builds on canvas, each brushstroke adding depth and emotion to the narrative she conveys. Marley's creative process is spontaneous and intuitive, often beginning with broad, sweeping gestures that evolve into intricate compositions, or with simple words and feelings rather than strokes of paint. The vibrancy of her colour palette, coupled with the tactile nature of her materials, brings her paintings to life, inviting viewers to engage with the rich textures and immerse themselves in the stories they tell.
A pivotal moment in Marley's career was her three-month residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, where she explored new styles and expanded her artistic horizons. This experience introduced fresh perspectives and innovative techniques, which continue to influence her work today. Balancing the energy of city life with the calm of coastal living, Marley’s art is a reflection of her personal journey as well as the environments she inhabits. Whether through solo exhibitions or collaborative projects, her pieces resonate with a sense of place, memory, and the ever-changing nature of her surroundings.
AMELIA AXTON
Amelia Axton’s artworks evoke dream states and meditative experiences, all created in her home studio in the Northern suburbs of Sydney. Her large-scale compositions are atmospheric, inviting interpretations as landscapes, cloudscapes, or reflections of mood. A common thread among them is their ability to envelop viewers in a sense of deep calm. Often described as serene abstract pieces, these works are crafted using a subtle technique of blending oil paint.
JESSICA MURTAGH
Jessica Murtagh is an Adelaide based early career artist working with blown glass. Having recently completed a Master’s in Design (Contemporary Art) from the University of South Australia, her practice is currently based out of JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design. Jessica’s arts practice leans heavily on illustration, using sandcarving and engraving techniques to create imagery and narratives on glass. Her work is predominantly in the form of vessels, which are both functional and sculptural, ranging from vibrant and dramatic to subdued. She draws inspiration from both the natural world and classical artefacts, contrasted with contemporary themes.
A lifelong love of botany sees much of Murtagh’s work inspired by the natural world. Her botanical work endeavours to capture the beauty of nature within the luminous surface of hand crafted blown glass. Jessica’s narrative work is inspired by antiquities from past societies such as the ancient Athenians. Artefacts made of stone, ceramic, metal and glass give glimpses into the stories of their lives, from godly deeds to tableaus depicting everyday moments. Illustrations of the common, mundane scenes of ordinary people are of particular influence on Murtagh’s body of work and a fascination with history and ancient relics has led to exploration of what future artefacts could be, and to question what our contemporary culture will one day leave behind.
She has exhibited in numerous prizes and exhibitions around Australia including at the National Gallery of Victoria for the 2023 Triennial and was recently awarded the second prize in the inaugural Make Award. Jessica’s work is held in a number of private collections, and was recently collected by the Geelong Gallery, the Powerhouse Museum and the National Gallery of Victoria.
TAN ALRIDGE
Tan Arlidge (b.1987) is an independent Australian artist creating soft, fluid sculptural works with a tantalising tension that leave the viewer resisting the urge to reach out and feel. She currently lives and works in Bondi Beach, Sydney.
Tan explores form and shape primarily through the process of thermoforming polymer. Prior to establishing her full time art practise in 2021, Tan worked extensively for more than a decade as a Set Designer, Visual Merchandiser and Stylist in the Fashion industry for a number of respected Australian brands eg. Christopher Esber, Lee Mathews, Alice McCall and sass & bide. It was during this time Tan discovered a common thread with her curiosity for manipulation of materials ie. Paper, cellophane and mesh.
In 2015 Tan was given the opportunity to exhibit her thermoformed polymer sculptures in the windows of 16 sass & bide boutiques across Australia and New Zealand. Since this time Tans sculptural work has grown a steady following here in Australia along with New Zealand, Sweden & New York.
In few words Tans work can be described as “moments in time captured as sculpture”.
HENRYK.
Henryk is a self-taught artist, based in Sydney, who is making a name for himself with his immersive, textural works made from a blend of concrete and polymer & gels on canvas.
Henryk's art is about capturing the essence of the creative process. His work can be described as intense and raw, with a gestural abstraction that plays with the very nature of the materials he uses.
