A PRIVATE COLLECTION OF WORKS BY DAVID PALLISER

25 July - 30 August

David Palliser (b. 1955, Melbourne) is a Melbourne-based painter and drawer known for his layered, improvisational approach to abstraction. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Palliser has exhibited widely in Australia since the early 1980s. His work navigates the space between spontaneity and structure, often referencing his own archive of drawings and earlier paintings as a way to build complex, internally resonant compositions. Influenced by both Arte Povera and the gestural lineage of post-war abstraction, Palliser’s practice is marked by a tactile intelligence, where mark-making, erasure, and reconstruction are central to the life of each image. Alongside his painting, he has produced numerous works on paper and prints, continuing a restless inquiry into the possibilities of form, rhythm, and visual syntax.
