AMELIA AXTON | ORA

Amelia Axton’s artworks evoke dream states and meditative experiences, all created in her home studio in the Northern suburbs of Sydney. Her large-scale compositions are atmospheric, inviting interpretations as landscapes, cloudscapes, or reflections of mood. A common thread among them is their ability to envelop viewers in a sense of deep calm. Often described as serene abstract pieces, these works are crafted using a subtle technique of blending oil paint.

ARTIST STATEMENT

In this, my first solo exhibition, I invite you to enter a space of quiet reflection—one that is soft, meditative, and profoundly attuned to the subtle power of femininity. My work is a manifestation of stillness, where layers of texture, colour, and form create a dialogue between inner landscapes and the external world. Working primarily with oil paint, I explore the gentle yet transformative nature of softness—both as a material and as a conceptual space for healing, contemplation, and growth.

Meditation has been a central practice in my life and my art-making process, providing a rhythmic pulse that guides my exploration of time, space, and energy. I aim to capture the delicate balance between presence and absence, inviting viewers to pause, to breathe, and to consider the spaces between thoughts—the way silence can hold as much meaning as sound.

My work is also deeply rooted in a desire to express the nuances of femininity—its complexities, contradictions, and strengths. I am drawn to the subtle power that resides in softness, in the unspoken, and in the intimate connection between mind, body, and spirit. Each piece reflects this embodied experience, where femininity is not a singular narrative, but a rich, fluid space that embraces vulnerability and resilience in equal measure.

The exhibition at Litsa Veldekis Gallery, set within the vibrant art community of Woollahra, is an invitation to pause within the rhythms of daily life and find solace in the quieter, more reflective moments. Here, softness becomes a form of strength, and meditation a pathway to deeper understanding. I hope my work offers a space for contemplation, connection, and an invitation to experience the world not only with the mind but with the heart.

Thank you for stepping into this shared moment of stillness with me. — Amelia Axton
